Electronic Residence Document/Permit

The biometric electronic Residence permit of the EU uniform format was introduced in Cyprus late 2014. Later, in 2020 the original biometric residence permits of uniform format gave their place to the new uniform format adopted by the EU with the latest amendment of Regulation EC 1030/2002. With the above EU Regulation, uniformity of the residence documents/ permits for all Member States is achieved, as regards to their design and to the basic information included in the personalisation in the documents/ permits. Also, the protection of the residence documents/ permits against counterfeiting, forgery and impersonation is enhanced, by the inclusion of common security features and of the holder’s biometric features. Even though the residence documents/permits are identical regarding colouring and design, the pesonalisation data varies, depending on the type of document/ permit granted.
